Theme: "THE PARK PLAYS." All plays must be set in a park with a single bench, a lamp post and a distant tree as the only setting.

Keep in mind that the space is the size of a modest black box theater, so intimate scenarios are preferable. There can be no scene changes, although time changes are acceptable.

Company Description: Vanguard Repertory Theater Company has fostered and produced new work in North Hollywood, CA for over 5 years. We strive to produce innovative new work that speaks to our community and our culture. This upcoming season we will be expanding the number of new plays we produce from 3 to 6 plays and are very excited to welcome new writers to our company.

If you'd like more information about our company, the website is www.3ofakindtheatre.org (Formerly 3 of a Kind Theater Company.)

Our process: We have a very unique process at Vanguard, which includes a 6 week workshop process followed by a 6 week rehearsal process which culminates in a two weekend production of your piece.

All rehearsals take place on SUNDAYS at 7PM at the NoHo ACTOR's STUDIO in NORTH HOLLYWOOD.

The First 6 Weeks: The first 6 weeks of our process is devoted to developing the 6 chosen plays. Each piece will be broken into 3 sections. Starting with the first week, three writers will workshop the first section of their pieces with a director and a talented cast of company actors assigned to their piece.

The next week, the other three writers workshop their first section while the first three writers develop the next section of their piece in an on-site development room consisting of their fellow writers, directors and company actors.

After rotating the pieces and assigning different directors each week, the end of the first six weeks culminates in a performance of the entire piece for the company. The company then gives feedback to the writers on the current condition of their pieces.

The Second 6 Weeks: The second 6 weeks consists of the rehearsal process for the final production. Each of the 6 pieces will be assigned a director and a cast consisting of company actors.

The writer is an intricate part of this rehearsal process and is afforded the right to rewrite their piece to the director's discretion. Most directors allow their writers the ability to make subtle rewrites to their piece up until a week before production.

The Production: After the second 6 weeks, we perform the works for two weekends with evening shows at the NoHo Actor's Studio. Full lights and sound are utilized. This is not a workshop production. It is a full production. Additional shows may be added based on ticket sales.

First meeting: FEBRUARY 7th, 2010 at 7PM

We meet every SUNDAY at 7PM at the NoHo ACTOR's STUDIO in NORTH HOLLYWOOD from FEBRUARY 14th to MARCH 21st, 2010.

The first week of rehearsals begins MARCH 28th, 2010 & continue every SUNDAY at 7PM until MAY 9th, 2010. (We take off Easter Sunday.)

Performances:
FRIDAY - MAY 14th
SATURDAY - MAY 15th
FRIDAY - MAY 21st
SATURDAY - MAY 22nd
SUNDAY - MAY 23rd at 3PM
SUNDAY - MAY 23rd at 7PM

Characters: 3 or more characters of either sex. Characters that can be cast as either sex are a plus. It is encouraged that characters not be specific to any ethnicity. Please no characters older than 50 years old or younger than 17 years old.

No company member is paid, including board members. There are no formal dues for company members, but all company members, including writers, must adhere to a fundraising goal. The company engages in various fundraising activities throughout the rehearsal process.

Each company member is responsible for raising a certain amount of money per season. If this goal is not met, the company member is responsible for the difference between the amount of money raised and their fundraising goal.

This season each company member is responsible for raising $60 during the first 6 weeks of the process and another $60 for the second 6 weeks of the process.

This money is used solely to preserve the space, print scripts, for advertising and design elements of the show. Again, no person is paid in this process. We all contribute for the benefit of the company and the art form.

If you have any questions, please email vanguardliterary@ gmail.com

We are very excited to receive your submissions! Vanguard started many years ago as a writer's group, and we make sure that we take care of our writers.

We hope that you will join us for this unique and rewarding experience!
